Cleaned up lady in Laeken
Since I had not noticed the renovation and clean up of what used to be a blackened dirty church, I was stunned earlier this week. It almost felt like seeing it for the first time ever.
The Church of Our Lady of Laeken, a neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church, was originally built in memory of Queen Louise-Marie, wife of King Leopold I to the design of architect Joseph Poelaert. Inside the church is the Royal Crypt, that holds the tombs of the Belgian royal family, including those of all the former Belgian kings.

Manneken Pis as Red Knight Belgium 1
The epitome of Belgian folklore, Manneken Pis, was dressed in FireFighter Motorcycle Club gear to remember the FDNY victims of 9/11. Red Knights are firefighters, Blue Knights are policemen. The crowd was international, as you can see there’s German and Czech bikers on these pictures. Special thanks to ‘Shrek’. Last picture is Manneken Pis’ dress before the event started.

A boy left his bike chained to a tree when he went away to war in 1914. He never returned, leaving the tree no choice but to grow around the bike.
